The Environmental Services Association (ESA) Policy Team is set to have a significant presence at the upcoming Environmental Services & Solutions (ESS) Expo, speaking on a range of critical environmental topics. The event, taking place on Wednesday, September 17, and Thursday, September 18, at the NEC in Birmingham, will bring together industry leaders to discuss the latest in sustainability, circular economy, and waste management.
The following ESA team members will be participating in sessions:
Jacob Hayler – ESA Executive Director
- Wednesday: Jacob is scheduled to participate in a “Circular Economy Taskforce” panel, which will likely address the development of a UK-wide circular economy strategy and the policy mechanisms required to transition away from a linear model.
Charlotte Rule – Head of Energy & Climate Policy
- Wednesday: Charlotte will join a panel discussion on “Systems-Level Decarbonisation,” focusing on strategies and solutions for reducing carbon emissions across entire systems and industries.
- Thursday: She will also speak on “The Future of Carbon Markets: Unlocking the Potential of Emissions Trading Systems,” a session that will explore how to scale up regulated carbon pricing mechanisms to meet global climate goals.
Patrick Brighty – Head of Recycling Policy
- Wednesday: Patrick will speak on two panels. The first is “Navigating the New Legislation: Understanding the Deposit Return Scheme,” which will cover the operational challenges and opportunities for retailers and producers following the introduction of the scheme. The second session, “Simpler Recycling 6 Months On: An Operational Perspective,” will review the practical implementation of the new recycling regulations.
- Thursday: He will conclude his appearances with a panel on “Packaging, Producers and Policy: Navigating the PEPR landscape,” which will delve into the complexities of the new Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (PEPR) scheme and its impact on the industry.
Emilia Peters – Environmental, Social, & Governance Policy Officer
- Wednesday: Emilia will contribute to the discussion on “Strength in Diversity: Building Sector Attractiveness,” which aims to explore ways to make the environmental sector more inclusive and appealing to a wider range of talent.
The ESS Expo is an important platform for knowledge exchange, and the ESA policy team’s participation underscores their role in shaping the future of resource management policy and practice in the UK.
