WILL WASTE STRATEGY REVIEW PROVIDE ROADMAP TO EUROPEAN STANDARDS?

13.02.2009

Embargo: None

With the Government’s Waste Strategy Review due tomorrow, ESA says the key test of the Review is whether it will provide a clear roadmap to European levels of recycling and recovery.

“Britain’s neighbours routinely recycle high amounts of material and energy in waste but our Government’s promises to Europe are still not on track to be fulfilled,” comments Dirk Hazell, ESA’s Chief Executive.

“Under the Labour Government, recycling has trebled and this is a significant achievement. However, the UK needs still to extract even more value from waste and the Government needs to set out a clear roadmap enabling this to be done.” he concluded.
