In June 2001 NIESA was launched in the Parliamentary Buildings at Stormont in Belfast by Mr Sam Foster MLA, Minister of the Environment. Those attending the launch included leaders of the waste management industry and representatives from Government Departments and District Councils. Members of Northern Ireland's Waste Management Advisory Board were also present.
NIESA will provide technical direction and support to the waste management industry and authorities in Northern Ireland as they strive to fulfil the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy. NIESA will provide a link to information on many the issues affecting sustainable waste management.
The Waste Management Advisory Board for Northern Ireland was set up under the terms of the Waste Management Strategy and will promote sustainable waste management throughout the Province.
